About Us

Welcome to Point Loma Pediatrics

Our practice was founded by the husband-wife team of Dr. Jennifer Davis and Dr. Keith Vaux. We are very excited to have this opportunity to provide comprehensive care for the children and families in our community from birth through college age.

Dr. Davis grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and later attended Rice University, where she received her degree in biology. Upon receiving her bachelor’s degree she returned to Georgia to attend medical school at the Medical College of Georgia where she received her MD in 2003. Continuing with her certifications, Dr. Davis completed her Pediatric Residency at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee.

Additionally, she completed a one year Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital followed by a 2 year fellowship in Child Abuse Pediatrics at Rady Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Davis is board certified in General Pediatrics and Child Abuse Pediatrics.

She served as an Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at the University of California San Diego from 2010-2015. During her time at Rady Children’s Hospital and UCSD, Dr. Davis worked as a Pediatric Hospitalist, General Pediatrician, Child Abuse Consultant, and Physician in the Pediatric Emergency Department.  She remains on staff at Rady Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Vaux is a medical geneticist and Pediatrician with more than 20 years of experience as a practicing physician and researcher. For thirteen years, Dr. Vaux served as an active duty physician for the Navy, providing pediatric care to service members and their families, which included a two-year post on the island of Guam.

Dr. Vaux hails from Chicago and earned his medical degree from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego including a year as Chief Resident. He then completed a 3 year Fellowship at the University of California San Diego in Dysmorphology, Teratology, and Medical Genetics. Dr. Vaux is board certified in Pediatrics.

Dr. Vaux’s special interests include neurologic genetics and genomic diseases, with a focus on diagnostic dilemmas. His clinical and research interests reside in rare diseases, including epilepsy and autism. Much of his prestigious work and research has received acclaim and resulted in numerous peer reviewed medical journal articles.

Dr. Shamini Govender grew up near the Catskill Mountains in Upstate New York. She attended Johns Hopkins Medical School and completed her residency in Pediatrics at Rainbow Babies in Cleveland.  After returning to New York to work in private practice, she relocated to San Diego, joining Children’s Health Care Associates before moving on to Rady Children’s. At Rady Children’s, she focused on pediatric urgent and emergency care, frequently working with Dr. Davis.

Dr. Govender first joined Point Loma Pediatrics part time two years ago, coming on full-time this year.  She has over 14 years of pediatric experience and a special interest in breastfeeding, childhood obesity and preventative and evidenced based medicine.

Her favorite after hours activities are hiking Torrey Pines with her husband and chasing her kids around the local Farmer’s markets.

Stephanie Reittinger grew up on Long Island in New York. She graduated from UCLA as a Family Nurse Practitioner and decided to specialize in Pediatrics. She worked for Rady Children’s Primary Care Medical Group and the Rady Children’s Emergency and Urgent Care with Dr. Davis. She is passionate about helping children and their families through the good times and the bad. With over 10 years of Pediatric experience, she joined Point Loma Pediatrics this year.

Her professional life spills into her personal life as she and her husband raise their two school aged girls. She enjoys being outdoors, and of course running around with her children to practices and school events. Most of all she loves sharing her life and professional experience and expertise with her patients.

Caitlyn Cornell is a native San Diegan, growing up in Bonita. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology from Point Loma Nazarene University and then graduated as valedictorian from both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and Masters of Science Family Nurse Practitioner program at Azusa Pacific University. Point Loma Pediatrics was fortunate enough to have Caitlyn rotate here as a student and she was immediately hired after graduation.

Caitlyn’s very genuine desire to help people along with a lifelong interest in medicine made becoming a nurse practitioner an easy choice for her. Her training is in caring for entire families and she treasures helping patients achieve their best health through a holistic approach. In addition to working at Point Loma Pediatrics, she teaches nursing at Azusa Pacific University part time.

Her husband is a firefighter and they recently had a baby so most of their free time is spent doing family-centered activities. They enjoy spending time outdoors, staying active with their Labrador, Darcy, and eating healthy.
